Artist's Comments

This shot is cropped even heavier than the last from the original. Probably somewhere around 70%, but I must say it's probably my favorite of this batch. I adore the way this came out post editing. It really emphasizes/expresses everything I loved about an otherwise terribly average shot pre-editing.

Again, advanced critique regarding light levels and coloring are appreciated on this lion series.

Wow, wonderful shot, his eyes are so mesmerising. The only attempt I can give you at critique would be that it *might* benefit by being rotated ever so slightly to make the eyes at one level? Not sure if I'm just talking crap though.

love it, such an expression

:wow: Lovely shot here, you really caught an awesome gaze, and the fact you could get it so close to see all the detail is amazing. Amazing!

Wow... That is such a beautiful shot. I love how you caught the intensity of the lions eyes.

The warmth works a lot better here, with no green to balance the orange. Great catchlight in his eyes, too. The cropping was a good idea.

Wow! That's got to be one of the best lion portraits I've seen in a while!
I would guess you took this in what I call the "magic light", others call it the golden hour, just before twilight? If not it sure looks like it. It complements the expression of the lion so well, a feeling of contentement and peace.
:icontimberwolf4u:
The magic light eh? Yup, you're indeed correct on the timing of the picture! It was overcast and about to start raining in roughly an hour though. I took a lot of liberties lightening these photos up so they looked all sunny and "warm" =)

Ahhh, so you feel the warmth didn't work in the shots with green? Why is that? The catchlights had to be from my flash. I was a good hundred feet from this guy at least when I took the shot. No tripod with me, had to steady the camera on the fence with my 300mm telephoto zoomed in quite a bit. The cropping definitely works on this one. Seeing it now I do wish I'd left a little more mane on the left side of the photo and rotated just a little more clockwise. I already rotated this 2 degrees. Should have gone 2.5 or 3.
